Hi,
I’m laying out a new floor plan for a client in an existing 2 story building. The client’s preferred layout requires that the existing elevator machine room door be relocated from one wall to another, and works from an equipment point of view. However, the new door is in a new room and not off the current corridor. Is this a code problem? I’ve been searching in IBC for guidance but haven’t found anything that prohibits the access to the room be off a corridor. For what it’s worth, the client owns the building and their business will take over the entire space, so access to the room isn’t cut off in anyway when the business is open.
