I believe this subject has been covered here but I can't seem to find it.

My question is: Can a LULA type device have doors opening into a stair tower?

More info

2009 IBC

Project involves installation of a LULA into an existing 3 story plus basement.

2009 IBC

1022.3 Openings and penetrations. Exit enclosure opening protectives shall be in accordance with the requirements of Section 715.

Openings in exit enclosures other than unprotected exterior openings shall be limited to those necessary for exit access to the enclosure from normally occupied spaces and for egress from the enclosure.

Elevators shall not open into an exit enclosure.

Have not looked at the Existing Building Code yet... has it been adopted as well?

Also found this in Chapter 30...

3002.7 Common enclosure with stairway. Elevators shall not be in a common shaft enclosure with a stairway.

Exception: Open parking garages.

A 3-story LULA elevator? What are your floor-to-floor heights? ASME A17.1 limits LULA elevators to a 25-foot rise.
