Fire area vs. Entire building

I have a small existing restaurant with an occupancy load of 30 and was looking at an addition that would increase my overall occupant load to around 120 based on the square footage that is being added. This new area is an addition off the back of the current building. Is this creating a new "fire area" that is separate from the original space or would the whole building now be a fire area for the propose of adding sprinklers for an assembly occupancy with an occupant load of more than 100?

A fire barrier would be easier and cheaper to build than a fire wall. Creating 2 separate fire areas is the only way to avoid sprinklers

Existing fire areas increased by the addition shall comply with Chapter 9 of the International Building Code

Un-incorporated Broward County for 34 years. Then LaBelle Fl for 8 years before moving west. I miss the sunsets and the big old oak trees. But not the bugs or humidity

If the new addition has over 100 occupants or is over 5,000 sq ft you would need sprinklers in the addition..
