This section has always confused me a bit, and every time I think I get it too much time passes and I lose it again.

I have a fire barrier, required by 416.2 for a paint room. In this fire barrier I have a 45-min door, with a wired glass vision panel exceeding 100inch². I am struggling with the path to the correct label for this glazing. Starting at 716.1.2.1, I understand the requirement for safety glazing, even with the wired glass. 716.1.2.2 then directs marking in accordance with all of the tables (1), (2) & (3). As subsections to 716.1.2.2 there are two sections that define the specific markings for either fire-protection-rated glazing, or fire-resistance-rated glazing. This is where I get sideways. I am not sure which I need.

If I look at 716.2.2.3.1 it appears that because of the size of the vision panel, fire-resistance-rated glazing is required. So do I look to t716.1(2) to determine the required markings? If I do that, I see the section for "other" fire barriers (which applies) which specifies "D-H", but there is no time (xxx) listed. This confuses me even more. And, using t716.1(2) I see the specific markings based on the size of the vision panel for fire barriers for exit elements. I assume those markings would not apply since I do not have a fire barrier being used in that manner.

Is the glass just marked "D-H", or should it be "D-H 45"? Or something completely different?

You state that Section 416.2 requires a barrier for the enclosure of a paint room; however, Section 716.2.2.3.1 is only for doors in interior exit stairways/ramps and exit passageways. Thus, Section 716.2.2.3.1 is not applicable to your situation.

"Other fire barriers" is what you should be using. There was an errata published about this time last year (https://www.iccsafe.org/wp-content/uploads/errata_central/2018-IBC-Errata-Chapter-7.pdf), and it added the "-45" to make the label "D-H-45."

Hopefully, that answers your question.

It absolutely does, THANKS. I had it marked that I thought it should be D-H-45 so this makes perfect sense. I need to check the errata more often.
