2009 IBC - Type IIB construction for Buildings 1 and 2.

How far must the fire wall extend from building line 2 towards building line 1?

Option 1: Does it stop at bldg line 2 with a 1 hour rated wall 4 ft long? Can this wall stop short of bldg line 1 since the fire separation distance from Building 2 is greater than 30 ft? Do I need to add a 1 hour rated 4 ft long wall along the canopy opening and perpendicular to the fire wall?

Option 2: Extend the fire wall to bldg line 1, then no other walls need to be rated?

How far must the fire wall extend from building line 3 towards building line 4?

Option A: Similar to Option 1 above. Does it stop at bldg line 3 with a 1 hour rated wall 4 ft long? Can this wall stop short of bldg line 4 since the fire separation distance from Building 1 is greater than 30 ft? Do I need to rate 4 ft of Building 2 wall for 1 hour along bldg line 3?

Option B: Extend the fire wall to bldg line 4, then Building 2 along bldg line 3 does not need to be rated? I assume then that the overhead door and personnel door would both need to be rated?

Am I making this more difficult than it is?

Thanks for the input!

Seems like this is the place you want to be

706.5.1 Exterior walls. Where the fire wall intersects exterior walls, the fire-resistance rating and opening protection

of the exterior walls shall comply with one of the following:

1. The exterior walls on both sides of the fire wall shall have a 1-hourfire-resistance rating with 3/4-hour protection

where opening protection is required by Section 705.8.

The fire-resistance rating of the exterior wall shall extend a minimum of 4 feet (1220 mm) on

each side of the intersection of the fire wall to exterior wall. Exterior wall intersections at fire walls that

form an angle equal to or greater than 180 degrees (3.14 rad) do not need exterior wall protection.

Thanks everyone. Having re-read, re-read, and re-read the code and your responses, I think I have my questions answered.
