I was fired today. I'm 61 and never fired ever. I worked for a third party code inspector co. I was sent to check work being done with no permits at a restaurant. Didn't have address. I went to wrong restaurant, it was a few hunderd feet from the restaurant I was suposed to go to.

So I went to the wrong restaurant and it was closed. A guy was prunding trees there. I told him that I was here because I was told that work was being done without permits. He didn't know anything about it. I left him my card and asked him to tell the owner that they need to go to the town hall to get permits. Got a phone call a few hours later. A very rude person started yelling at me saying that they are not doing anything. They think the pizza place down the street was doing some work. Hung up before I got to say anything.

Boss told me that he had a complaint and was told that I went to the restaurand and confronted the owners there and was very rude to them. They complaned to the town supervisers who conplaned to my company.

my boss beleves the restaurant owners who he never meet or dealt with but not me. Even thou he trusted me to inspect per codes.

Anyone hiring in North east or east central PA?

That sucks dude............ sounds like a company you wouldn't want to be associated with any anyway.

That said, it doesn't pay the rent or buy groceries.

Good luck on the new job quest.

Best of luck finding another position quickly - sounds like you were just the unlucky scapegoat and the boss was looking for a way to show he/she had dealt decisively with the complaint.

I worked for one architect who kept telling me that there were numerous clients that were complaining about me - but when I pressed him would never say which client(s)/project(s) the complaints came from! Turned out that it was just his way of controlling me and not based in any facts.

Sorry to hear this. It doesn't matter weather it is the private sector or government. When they take the approach that you are judged guilty before innocent they fully demonstrate their ignorance and total lack of any kind of leadership.

Rick,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Wish you and your family well and hope you are soon back in the saddle. One of the reasons ICC certs are so important is because you may have to relocate to another state; and they are worth their weight in gold in most states.

There will be an opening for a building inspector in a nice community in Oklahoma in January, 2014. Just something to keep in mind. :)

I heard your king "W" was behind it. The elections are over ,get on with your life.
Wow. Kinda joking there. Let me buy you a beer.

But in general people are being fired and laid of for almost any reason to keep from getting saddles with Obama are compliance. That's a fact. Got a couple friends going through it now.

But my half joking point is that you can pull a boner move that previously would not have been any kind of issue but now it can get you shown the door. And for the record I'm a Reagan and bull moose guy. You can have Bush. He's a much better "man" than he was a president.

Brent.

Rick: If your boss was rude enough not to hear the facts from you, and the other side first person, then you were thrown under the bus for sure. You probably can find a much better boss: one who is a leader, not knuckle-under to the politicos. Sorry to hear this had to happen, but when one door is closed, a window usually opens. just be ready when you see it! I wish you success. Take the lesson, and try not to be bitter. Better to take the high road and feel good about yourself.
