I have a stud that has been over-notched to allow for a plumbing pipe.

Is there any quick way to remedy this? Perhaps attaching a splice plate to the face of the stud?

The other thought would be to create a header over the compromised stud (like a door frame except encased in gypsum.)
Then I supposed we are just talking about the stability of the gypsum board at the "door frame" maybe throw a couple of horizontal studs in there.

Thoughts?
