Flamejetting

Wasn't sure where else to post this, so I chose here. This information came to me in a daily update from firefighterclosecalls.com

Pretty interesting thing about "flamejetting" as the ATF is calling it. I know of at least one fire where there were some kids burned doing this (mostly 2nd degree burns, very lucky). Of course, like the story says, it was quite a while ago and what appeared like an isolated incident is perhaps a little more common than we thought.

It looks like the fire climbs the fumes up to the container, then the fumes in the gas can ignite and expand expelling the burning fumes.

Exactly like how a rocket engine works.
