Floor dampers

It took some digging but I discovered the why behind our local interpretation to not require a firestop system at the flor of a floor only membrane penetration. We have a local amendment to IBC 714.5.1.2 to require the protection only at the fire resistive membrane, with the intent being at the drywall side only, not the floor. This local amendment has been in place for over 20 years, so its use is so ingrained in practice I didn't think to look in the ordinance. I'm much more familiar with our IMC/IFGC ordinances than the IBC ordinances. Just shows the importance of checking not just the model code but local ordinances as well.....
