Floor openings IRC

I remember we had a discussion about openings adjacent to a stairwell and when a guard would be required, but I don't know if we touched on the max opening (gap) in a floor system? Example....contractors spacing 20% moisture deck boards, then drying creates a 1/2" gap between them.....Compliant? Opinions, thoughts, code path or change?

Code is silent on deck board spacing. What is acceptable? What can you enforce? Tough one. Think abouat industrial grate floors and walkways, those are what 3/4-7/8"?

I would consider 1/2" acceptable. Private home so no accessibility to worry about

Yep....I don't like it, I think of the unsuspecting high heel going in there.....I know (or at least believe) that there is a 1/2" max somewhere in IBC/ANSI land somewhere....be nice to get that into IRC.....I can space my deck boards 3-7/8"?????

Yup..., less than 4", so a kid with small ears can’t get his/her head btwn. the boards. That’s what the code writers were worried about.
