Gable End Walls - Included in Calculations?

Wondering if gable end walls should be included in the gross wall area I put in rescheck.

Intuitively, it shouldn't. My attic has blown-in insulation and an air barrier at the bottom of the trusses, so the attic is unconditioned space. Thus, any insulation in the gable end wall would be pointless.

However, here's the definition from 2021 IECC, which includes gable end walls.


Section R202.1 —A


ABOVE-GRADE WALL. A wall enclosing conditioned space that is not a below-grade wall. This includes between-floor spandrels, peripheral edges of floors, roof and basement knee walls, dormer walls, gable end walls, walls enclosing a mansard roof and skylight shafts.
