Gas fireplace - hotel

I had just signed off the new Hampton Inn in our city and the next day the owner contacts me to come and look at the new gas fireplace. I touch the wood panel just above the unit and it was so hot I had to pull my hand away. All of the clearances to combustibles were met according to the spec's. He said that it gets this hot when it is on low, but gets much hotter when the unit is on high. The contractor supposedly called the manufacturer and they told him that the area around the unit will get 114 degree above the ambient temperature. Therefore, if the room is 75 degrees, the temperature will get to 189 degrees. Have any of you experienced this problem? Is it a problem?

Get the install manual and see if something was missed???

do you have a point and shoot digital thermometer to see what the actual temp is???

Everything looks great as far as the install compared with the instructions. The contractor was going to place a themometer on it yesterday.
