Just watched my neighbor's weather-head pull off the side of his house. It was literally bolted to non-structural ply-gem type sheathing, no framing. Can't believe it lasted as long as it did. Talked with the lineman who came to drop the conductors. He was stunned, but he shouldn't have been since he said they don't do a great job of checking the construction details on service entrances. I wasn't stunned.
He gave it some slack, gave me the connectors to give to my neighbor and his personal cell to drop the power when they repaired it. Watched the repair guy working under the live service which he strapped to a temporary point over his head at eyeball level, ducking under it to do the work, with a home depot strap, all while working on a nice aluminum ladder. I offered to call the lineman, who said he would come right over, drop the service, wait for the repair and hook it back up. I offered to print off the construction detail for the connection. He declined both. No idea what he reconnected to He lived, and now will think he is bullet proof.
One can only do so much.
