Grandpa

I left last Wednesday for Pennsylvania to see family, and more specifically, my youngest daughter, who is the first to have a baby. I am officially a grandpa with a grandson for the first time. Time really flies. It seems like two weeks ago I was 17, graduated high school, and went right into the Marine Corps. Time does more than fly. It is more like a time warp.

Think of what a child of today will experience in their lifetime. You went from a phone on a wall to calling the fire dept yourself from the scene of your crash.

Heh, heh. How many of you are old enough to remember this wall phone?



That's like the phone on the wall in my grandparents house. That little nub that's barely visible on the right is the end of the crank handle. You'll notice there is no dial. To make an outgoing call, you lifted the earpiece, cranked the handle to alert an operator, and then told her -- in words, by name -- who you wanted to call.
