The AHJ does not always perform the inspections or do the plan review when the contractor/builder hires their own private provider. The last statement from the video is “Hire your own inspector.” Now why is that a thing when the AHJ issues a permit and performs inspections?
They will fare just fine. Inspections are just a representative sampling at different phases of a construction project. A smart building official will use this as a reason to justify more staff and a larger budget for training.I am curious as to how the Building Department will fare in this situation.
Legally, yes, but in the court of public and political opinion, probably not. They will fare just fine. Inspections are just a representative sampling at different phases of a construction project. A "smart" manager will fire the BO as a scapegoat to show that they are doing something and that they care, and inevitably hire someone that likely sucks as a replacement....A smart building official will use this as a reason to justify more staff and a larger budget for training.

FIFY….Shifting the responsibility back and forth without changing the outcome is why the problem persists
