High-rise bank builing (17 stories) want to move their fire pump room from lower level to second floor. Fire pump will be out of service during move for about 4 days. What do you require?

Recalculate and new test

So will the water to the entire building be shut down???

Using same pump or new???

They want to use the same pump, just move it up two floors. I believe water will be on and FDC will be in service.

oh yea submit some piping plans, would almost treat this as a new install!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure how they are going to keep the system in service, unless they are using all new pump pipe on the second floor.

What is the standpipe and sprinkler demands psi and gpm at the pump discharge? Will the drop of suction pressure ( moving the pump up 2 stories up) have on the discharge pressure? Loss of 10 psi suction pressure means loss of 10 psi on the discharge side of the pump. IF the designer included a big safety factory in the design, not a problem. IF not, then they may need to change the impeller the pump to increase the pump pressure.

Also if they have PRV on each standpipe connection and on each floor sprinkler system they may need adjustment.

It sounds like this is not going to be a 1-2 day job if they plan to use the same pump.

Why are they moving the pump??

This is in Fargo, ND. They want to move essential equipment out of the lower level due to flood concerns from the Red River.
