They had a great looking but certainly wouldn't meet the codes in the US. Does anyone know what the code requirements are in Germany?

I’m guessing the stairs were old/historic, and the only required handrails are on the walls in the background of the photo.

They may meet codes in the US IF the handrails provided are within the required means of egress width - the middle handrail would not be required. Thus, could be ornamental art as such. 2021 IBC 1014.9. The design meets the requirement for handrails to be on both sides of the stairway.

I don't know what German accessibility standards are, but the wall rails don't met US accessibility standards.
