A blast from the past:

Mechanical contractors should not be allowed on the job with anything sharper than nail clippers.

This is not the same as a cut roof truss. The roof truss is designed according to the rules in the code. The wood I joist is not engineered by the manufacturer for the particular project, rather the assembly is tested and the design values for design are interpreted. The problem with a cut I joist is the same as for a cut solid sawn joist.

The manufactures already provide details for cutting an I-Joist for a floor opening (crawlspace access) same solution for this one

To clarify my engineering answer. If the installation instructions cover this part of the installation prescriptively in their manual, then that would be acceptable as it is direct from the mfg. If not, they have to get a drawing from the mfg.

The problem with boxing it out per mfr specs will likely be the location of the corner. It doesn't appear that both ends of the box will land on the foundation. Not sure there's a prescriptive detail to follow, might need a mfr rep out at the job.
