5.4 Election - Except as provided herein, the Board of Directors shall establish policies

governing the conduct of elections and copies thereof shall be provided to any member

requesting a copy. At each Annual Business Meeting a majority of the Voting Members present

and voting shall elect such number of directors as necessary to fill vacancies of directors whose

terms expire as of such meeting.

I HOPE ICC reads this thread because we aren't 3 model groups anymore and someone needs to understand our budgets aren't getting bigger to travel around the country.

It's one thing (back in SBCCI days) for me to travel to Miami, Hilton Head, Birmingham, Asheville.. quite another to require me to travel to Phoenix, Reno, Jackson Hole...or wherever the "next" meeting may be.

ICC needs to (IMHO) come up with a remote voting mechanism to make sure the membership has a chance to vote, and not just that part of the membership who can afford the travel.

It's not going to get better for the membership anytime soon.

Thanks

Am I wrong to think that the only increase in expense is some (small) amount of increased airfare? Once you get on a plane, the price isn't that different to major hubs, is it?

Yeah, that's my pain. If I get to Phoenix it'll be on my dime. Probably drive it, and I have a friend in the area I could probably stay with.

Just the idea of traveling out of state for anything and getting the city to pay for it almost impossible during good years. Do not even ask to go to Vegas, Hilton head, Reno or any place else that is a predominate "vacation" spot.

I got my city to cover me for the hearings in MN, that was the last time. Thank goodness for the CO Chapter's generosity, getting me there the last two times.

Phoenix is only a 12 hour drive for me.......Unless I get help from ICC (scholarship), I won't be going. This year, I have no budget, not even enough for new code books. I am hoping to be able to go even if I pay for myself. I made it to Reno on the city's tab, mainly because it was a 3.5 hr drive for me.

Gillette Wyoming to Denver. Puddle jumper. 3 to 4 hundred on a good day. Thats if the weather doesn't close in or the plane isn't broke or the pilot is late because he or she spent too much time at the bar.

Look, I'm certified through NFPA as a Certified Fire protection Specialist. Each year the election is held via email and the internet. The ICC is behind the technology times. I tried to vote twice on the CFPS board just to see if it was possible. It wasn't. The message said " hey dummy" "you already voted". Point is that the ICC is behind the times. We MUST move on.

Post Script: A National (International) election is nothing without access.

back in SBCCI land, it was never more than a 12 hour drive (and we were well enough funded to justify the cost - I always preferred to drive than fly so I could escape if I felt I needed to).

It's all budget driven - if construction is so slow that the building department can't cover costs, the jurisdiction won't fund out of state travel.

Remote voting would be huge (use existing technology - nothing new needs to be developed).
