Increased door size

Does increasing the size of a door from 3 feet to 4 feet relieve any of the maneuvering requirements at doors?

For example, if one uses a 4 foot door instead of a 3 foot door, is the 12 inch on the push side for a front approach still required? My inclination is to say yes as the door size is not the issue; it's maneuvering at the door that requires the clearances.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

You are absolutely correct! It's not the size of the door but the ability to open the door by using the area adjacent to the door. The requirement is for a physically handicaped person to be able to put one hand on the adjacent panel and one pulling the door open.

The strike side door clearances have nothing to do with the width of a door.

It has to do with a person with mobility impairments reaching and using the door hardware,

Handles, pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices.

A wider door could cause more problems because a wider door is a heavier door.
