Have you experiencing the independent inspection products?

After spending 10-min. inspecting metal studs on a job today, could not find any stamped information on the inside of the studs. You know stuff like the gauge, the size, the ICC information. Then I found a "Black Sticker" way up 20-feet, couldn't read it.

Went looking for the stud pile, found a white sticker that said the size, the job number and the supplier. Went back in and found another "Black Sticker" in another area and snapped a pic. Went to the office researched the company that was listed as the independent inspection and the IAS#.

I don't have any issue with the independent inspection but the studs, two different sizes had now information on them at all, doesn't seem right to me.

The ICC listing ESR-3064P states:

7.0 IDENTIFICATION

At a spacing not exceeding 96 inches on center, each cold-formed member is stamped, stenciled or embossed with the company name or initials (see the listees at the beginning of this report); the acronym “ICC-ES”; the evaluation report number (ESR-3064p); and the minimum uncoated base-metal thickness in mils or decimal inches...

I usually find the studs are identified but rarely are they braced properly if the drywall is only placed on one side or one side is not full height. Then the studs should be braced horizontally every 4’ oc on the unsheathed side.

were you inspecting load bearing steel studs or steel studs that are not load bearing other that the finish surfaces

Doing a commercial rough-in, interior non-load bearing steel studs, but could not determine the gauge or any other pertinent information to confirm the studs meet the plan specs. The required information that is suppose to be at the job site when using independent inspectors is not here! Like usual.

This is similar to the glass manufactures using a stickers instead of etching the glass. They lobby for this and code inspector end up wasting time having to do additional research but it made it easier for the manufacture.

Had to find the stud info on the independent inspectors website, and verify the stud is correct. But first I had to identify who's metal stud I'm looking at.
