What is the fire rating for the shaft of a residential elevator?; single family, 2 story.
When I search, most of what I find is with respect to the IBC and not the IRC.

Thanks in advance

Good question!
I am not aware of any requirement for Fire-Rated Shaft for an SFR-elevator. However, the manufacturer's listing may require more than the IRC. If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

IMHO, the elevator shaft wouldn't be anymore of a fire hazard than the open stairs between floors, and not more than the separation between the dwelling and garage.

Good to know - and likewise I searched and could find no requirement in IRC for a fire rated elevator shaft. Confirming mfctrs requirements is a good catch!

In PA State elevators inspectors are the only ones that can inspect elevators. The state took IBC Chapter 30 Elevators out of the book. But the state elevator inspectors only ever look at commercial buildings. Elevators in homes then do not get any inspection.
