IRC footing rebar requirements, Seismic Zone A

I have never really dug into this because all the contractors around here put in rebar when they do a footing, and they always do it the exact same way.

I'm not finding a requirement to add reinforcement to any concrete footing in the IRC until you get into of the Seismic C for townhomes and Seismic D for everything else. Walls, yes, footings, no.

Is that correct, or am I missing the code section? Is simple, plain concrete acceptable for all IRC footings in Seismic A?

Had a guy asking if he could use fiberglass rebar in his footings without engineering. I balked initially since I had reviewed ES reports for fiberglass rebar in the past that were quite limited in application, but I guess it doesn't matter at all...

I know a guy that owned a used furniture store and auction. He used steel bed frame rails as the reinforcement for the foundation of a house in Oroville Ca.

Best reason is for the ufer. Not sure If accept a bed frame.

Residential spread footing reinforcing serves mostly for crack control and to possibly bridge a small soft spot in the soil. Fiberglass reinforcing should be fine, although it doesn't act as an ufer. You should install 20 ft. of #4 bare copper wire in the footing.
