Is there a maximum distance between an elevator and a dwelling unit, for example?

I've been searching for some time, and coming up empty.

My understanding is that we should not use an elevator when there is an emergency evacuation. Since it appears that the reason for a maximum distance is to make it possible to evacuate in a certain time the location of the elevator is irrelevant for that purpose.

Even the Federal accessibility Guidelines (FAIR HOUSING), do not give a number, it is very subjective … "(shall) ...not travel an unreasonable additional distance."
Unless the Elevators are used as an emergency exit.... there is not a number.
( section 9.4.1 of NFPA101 . An elevator, in accordance with 7.2.13, shall be considered a component in a required means of egress but shall be permitted as an accessible means of egress.)
