Is this sprinkler head a problem?

yes in all kinds of ways, looks to be over 50 years old should be changed, looks to be gumed up with somthing, looks likd the wall was installed dividing a space so coverage on the other side of the wall maybe comprimised, it obstructed by the crown molding and possib the sprinkler sysem was installed for someother type of occupancy and may not be properly sized for the current use group.

just the location alone make me concerned about the other opoetntil problems in the building, hood systems, hood duct cleaning, generil building and systmes maintenance

Maybe has tape on it??

Head not much of any value

Wonder if the town requires annual fire sprinkler inspections???

Mass. does ch. 9 of the building code requies sprinkler sysems be maintained in accordance with NFPA 25

and if it is a dance club, discotech, night club annual inspection by fire and building official

It's right around the corner from several big fires that have occurred in Boston's Chinatown. What could go wrong?
It depends what is the fire loading in the room?, Are there other sprinklers in the room? Generally historic buildings are a real pain to sprinkler and most times they do not want a sprinkler system at all. If this was the only sprinkler that has this condition and the rest of the room had sprinkler protection and the fire loading was low… I would probably live with it. Replacing the sprinkler with a new one would probably cause more damage to the building.
