Hi All,

I just spent about 2 hours filling out a job application, preparing a cover letter, digging out certs, etc.

I have 2 questions for you.

1. Does your jurisdiction require a copy of the HS Diploma if the applicant has a college degree?

2. Do you require a COMPLETE job history dating back to your first job?

I don't know about you but, I don't remember what year or where I worked for the past 42 years. I provided them with the last 17 or so years. I hope this is good enough.

Sue, forging ahead on the great job hunt.....;-)

Yes only if asked

Yes we do, besides in case I get a pink slip, part of my job has been an updated job and education history

Plus have not had many jobs in 39 years

Good luck

Did you put down you were a member in good standing with the BCF??

1. No 2. No

Mostly I think prospective employers want to see job experience that relates to the open position - If the job is Code Enforcement or Zoning, then candidates should have some background.

From the applicant's point of view, the application should be written in a way that will get you an interview. Then you can dazzle them with your brilliance! Good Luck!!

Agree with Mac, relevant experience, or the last 10 years. I have a GED, have never been asked to prove GED or HS Diploma.............

I have had a couple that asked for everything.....I gave them what I felt was relavent (last 10yrs or so) and they still offered me the jobs.....Never had to prove education....For that matter, I don't even think anyone has asked for my certs....

For this job I had to pass a background investigation. The same thing happens for any promotion. The application went back ten years for job history and birth for education.

Thanks for all the responses. I gave them job history back 17 years, which is when I first went to work for Alturas.

I haven't had to fill out that extensive an application um, ever? I'll also admit that it has been a looooong time since I've been job hunting.

Be thankful it wasn't for a state job in Virginia. They want to know EVERYTHING - including old speeding tickets!

1. No

2. No, ...mostly the last 7-10 yrs.

My most recent employer ran a thorough background check & security clearance thingy ! :-o

Answers to your questions -

1) No

2) No - typically they want to see the last 10 - 15 years. If it has all been with one employer, so be it. Going back 17 years should be more than enough.

Good Luck.

Did they specify the job application, or did they request resume and cover letter?

Specified on job app. I also attached my resume and cover letter and submitted all online per instructions. Not a bad process, just time consuming due to interruptions.

Sue

I have seldom seen a building official position that requests an application form rather than a resume with or without a cover letter.

Or the overqualified. Employers for low paying jobs won't call if you were making good money, they figure you aren't interested/going to stay. Doesn't matter that your unemployment ran out and extensions were cut by the feds on

January 1.

That is so true !........Sometimes, potential employers do not want to even offer the same salary amountas your previous position was paying......Showing too many certifications & training can be a detriment.

Are you looking at the state & federal job positions in your area ?..........Our Forum does have some

employment web sites for use.........See this link:

Please let us know if we can help you Ms. Sue ! :D
