From the Oklahoma City Website;

Currently the City of Oklahoma City is utilizing:

  • International Building Code, 2003

  • The 1995 CABO One and Two Family Dwelling Code

  • National Electrical Code, 2002

  • International Plumbing Code, 2000

  • International Mechanical Code, 1996

And, some people don't believe in Pergatory.

I found it, the retired Inspector's section.

Uncle Bob,

I strongly encourage you to get un-retired, ...QUICKLY!! Get back employed in to something that

interests you. There are always a lot of missions trips, ..to every corner of the globe. I just know

that you could utilize your many years of training & experience to the under-privileged,

...somewhere! :P

Globe,

Perhaps I should go to village in the Brazilian jungle and teach them how to build outhouses. I doubt my training and experience would be much help.

While the ICC continues to add multiple pages to each code cycle (2006 IRC 669 pgs. to the 2009 IRC's 868 pgs.; 199 pages added); these nice folks are still in the 1995 CABO. I think I am in a good location for mission work.

I haven't been idle. I have been attending Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commision (UBCC) meeting; who are adopting the 2009 I-Codes as State-wide Codes; and, volunteering my services. It is not going to be easy for the local Inspectors and contractors; to go from the 1995 CABO to the 2009 IRC. It's comparable to going from outhouses to indoor plumbing.

There is a job opening in Oklahoma City. Plumbing Inspector I. I posted it in our Employment area. I'd love to take it; but, I am over-qualified. They want a Journeyman Plumber with a drivers license; for an entry level position (no education requirements; no State license; and no Certification). I would enjoy being back out in the field; but, doubt they would hire me.

Code education is limited here. I am also working with some CEU Instructors on Powerpoint presentations; and, a local State Technology Center on code courses.

It's busy stuff; but, not like being in the field; and that's what I really love doing. I am an Inspector.

I am doing mission work, :D

UB .... we applaude your efforts to bring Oklahoma into the 21st century! We also have to be mindful of the fact that the experienced inspectors in the world aren't getting younger.

At some point, we need to train our replacements... with some institutional knowledge and experience.
