Does anyone have experience with very large solar panel installations (I'm talking many acres)? I am specifically looking into Fire Department access roads and fire lanes.

Yes i have 2, 5 acres and 9 acres, with a 25 acres one coming under review. Access in the fired itself is limited nothing I would use for a fire engine, more like a gator to get around on the 6 inches of 3/4 stone.

The 25 acre on has a lane up the middle, still I would not take a fire engine in there.

As far as an actual fire goes we will let it burn, this is energize electrical equipment and pretty beefy stuff once the arrays are ganged together, the transform and inverters will be toast once they catch on fire by the time we get there.

A California FD has a couple of god video on fire fighting and PV arrays if you look on the WWW.

Guess you have at least three hats , and it depends on is it burning, building, or growing that day what you wear!

my head spins around,

The Building and Zoning are full time, 10 years, the fire hat is paid on call (volunteer) for over 30 years.

I actually got the administration to let me dump 2 here you go your are here jobs; Fence Viewer and ADA Coordinator.
