We are having a lawn sprinkler company install a new system for our lawn. They will be tying into the domestic water supply because our development does not have reclaimed water. Is a permit required?

Varies by region. I do not know of a uniform code that compels a permit. However, here in California there are many jurisdictions that require the purple-colored irrigation pipe in anticipation of reclaimed water becoming available at a further date from a municipal utility. If it’s a required spec, then there’s probably a permit associated with it, even if it is just a condition on a planning department approval.
