Hello All,

Working out of the 2003 IBC.

Scenario: An A-3 occupancy with a fire area on a floor other than the level of exit discharge.

If we provide rated construction and opening protectives from the 2nd floor to the exit discharge at ground level, would that eliminate the need for an automatic sprinkler system?

Help me out here.

Agree with cda unless you can meet the exception Exception: Areas used exclusively as participant sports areas where the main floor area is located at the same level as the level of exit discharge of the main entrance and exit. Basically a gym or hockey rink with multi level seating

Is the first and second floor separated into two fire areas? Or is this one fire area where the fire area is indeed on the level of exit discharge?
