The block wall in the background was built without a permit. The owner kept insisting that the wall isn't retaining. It is 130' long and will have to come down to be built according to an engineered plan that they have yet to obtain. The sad part is that it is a HO that truly didn't know any better. She even asked our assistant office manager if a permit was required and came away from it thinking she was good to go.

That was one of the options presented....they would rather retro-fit this wall....we'll see....an added complication is that there is no burrito wrap drain pipe.

Can they build an "engineered" wall just inside of it? Instead of taking it down?
Had part of an original rock (early 1900's) retaining wall collapse here a few years ago. Local contractor built a CMU block wall inside for that portion and replaced original rocks on face. New CMU wall is built to seismic standards.

My questions on ICE's CMU wall is how tall is the wall and how deep are the footings? I noticed the century plant in the background so I can assume the wall is in a seismic zone, correct?
