Greetings all,

09 Codes... Could one of you folks direct me to the applicable fire code section that deals with the reporting of maximum allowable quantities of hazardous materials used or stored in a closed system...? Section 414.1.3 in the IBC covers it but I can't find it in the IFC.

thanks a bunch

I'm not sure what I might be looking at yet. The deal is that a fuel company set up shop and never got a final electrical inspection on the tank pumps, equipment and such. Also there is an associated building with this operation that had a preliminary occupancy inspection but never called back for a final. No telling what might be in the building. These folks pulled rank on me once before so I am gearing up for bear. Notices of violation are going out soon and I need to know all pertinent code sections as accurately as possible. Although I am a Tx licensed fire inspector my abilities and training are not extensive. To complicate things I am the only one in the county. On the positive side I have been a master electrician for many years so I can handle the electrical end without much ado.

Since they are already under suspicion, ...I wonder if they have

complied with the ADA requirements!......Let us know how it

turns out!

BSSTG,

I would recommend serving notice of inspection, document findings with photographs and during your exit interview inform the occupant(s) that you will provide them with a detailed inspection report outling any discovered deficiencies with the adopted building and fire codes.

Take note of quantities, container types and request MSDS on all materials. Check with state on fueling operations and permits (if they regulate fuel & tanks > Xgallons). Then use the sections noted previously [in addition to Table 307.1(1)] to determine if they are above MAQ or within MAQ for the building. You will alo need to verify if the building is protected (control area(s)/sprinkled or foam etc.) since quantities increase with protection as noted in the code sections.
