LPG Tank and Gas Line

I hope that the contractor will be back tomorrow to bury the gas line. Yes, it was raining earlier in the day but they had disappeared by 2:30 pm and the weather had cleared.

This install is in the UP Michigan. I am not familiar with the IPC but do know that the CA Plumbing Code requires burial of gas lines.

I cannot see your posted pics. here at work, because of filters.

The IRC, Ch. 24 - Piping system installation, ...has language in

it that models the IFGC & the IFC......Refer to Ch. 61 in the IFC,

that says "refer to the IFGC for compliance & installation requirements."

The IFGC does not prohibit installation above ground, but DOES have

requirements for protection of such piping systems.

As I understand the requirements and referenced standards, they can

install an LPG piping system "above ground", but must install it with

safeguards to prevent damage to \ protection of that system.

How about this from the 2012 IRC (references the Furel Gas Code also);

G2415.9

(404.9) Above-ground piping outdoors.



All piping installed outdoors shall be elevated not less than 31/2

inches (152 mm) above ground and where installed across roof surfaces,

shall be elevated not less than 31/2 inches (152 mm)

above the roof surface. Piping installed above ground, outdoors, and

installed across the surface of roofs shall be securely supported and located

where it will be protected from physical damage. Where passing through an

outside wall, the piping shall also be protected against corrosion by

coating or wrapping with an inert material. Where piping is encased in a

protective pipe sleeve, the annular space between the piping and

the sleeve shall be sealed.

It s not required to be buried.....But I am sure THAT is not approvable either....I'd go with FB if that is a code you can use...

2009 Michigan Residential Code Section G2415.7 (same as 2012 IRC). Michigan is not scheduled to (tentatively) adopt the 2012 version until May 2016.

Alias, Check the local pub, I heard the Ditch-witch was having battery problems!

IFGC 404.9 Minimum burial depth is 12" below grade. May be the property owners responsibility to have the line buried. No worries if tank is not supplied except for the gas line trip hazard.

If its the GASco, they may not have the equipment to bury the gas line or may be relying on a sub-contractor to do the work.

Well, here is the update. The line is still laying on the grass and no one has been back to bury the line. It is not protected in any way. The grass is getting long and the snowbird likes to get on her riding mower to keep her grass mowed. :mrgreen:
