Robert Hoff, the chairman of the town's Americans with Disabilities Act Commission, has publicly criticized former mayor and current Republican mayoral candidate Joseph Maturo Jr. for what the chairman alleges was Maturo's failure to ensure East Haven's compliance with ADA laws during his time as the top town official, according to a report in the New Haven Register.
According to Hoff — an appointment of Democratic Mayor and incumbent mayoral candidate April Capone — under Maturo's 10 years as mayor, the town "violated" the American with Disabilities Act by not ensuring certain federal requirements were met.
Hoff, an East Haven resident with disabilities, also stated that Maturo must be held to account for failing to meet ADA requirements and for "turning his back on East Haven’s disabled population."
Maturo reportedly responded to Hoff's charges by stating that his administration "complied with all laws."
