Membrane Peneteration.

I have a bunch of things going on right now and will check chapter 7 of the FBC after dinner, but any insight would be great.

GC wants to move a full size 200A 3Ø panel into a 1hr fire wall in a restaurant. The opening in the firewall will be about 14½" wide by 30" high. I don't believe this is a problem but I defer to the experts before I research this.

Thanks.

Re: Membrane Peneteration.

Only if the panelboard is listed for use in a 1-hr assembly.

Otherwise the only things allowed are ducts, piping, outlets.

If it's a shaft enclosure it would not be permitted, regardless of any listing.

Re: Membrane Peneteration.

I agree with tim. We had a similar situation a couple years back, panels were already installed, they were able to cover them with 1-hr doors to maintain the rating.

Re: Membrane Peneteration.

Chris,

Start with Section 712 in the IBC. Does the GC know that EMT conduit will be required on each

run out of the panelboard?

Also, is this a true "firewall" or a fire barrier, or fire partition? :?:

Re: Membrane Peneteration.

Agree with Tim and others, I see this all the time with vertical exit enclosures, no penetrations( even single membrane) if it does not serve the enclosure. If they want receptacles or panels on the out side of stairwell walls, better be surface mount!
