Metrodome collapse video

When I was in Minnesota for the sprinkler vote I was in the holiday Inn hotel across the street form the dome. During one afternoon, I asked if I could tour the building and Security allowed me a quick view. Having watch many games on TV and being a curious sort of fellow, I needed to see the structure first hand. All the ICC badges made me seem important, so they let me in. It is quite a structure and my thoughts at the time was how does this thing hold up in a major snow load. I guess my, thoughts had been on target. Good thing it wasn't full of people.

And look where that snow and water dropped. I'd be pretty upset if I was a player who had to play there. Imagine the head lines when your starting lineup gets wiped out.

The roof failed pretty much the way is is supposed to fail. The baggie sagged, but was still supported by the cable system and did not totally drop to the floor. The fabric failures occured over the field and not ever the seating sections where fans could have been impacted. This was not a sudden event, but increased over time. Even if an event had been going on at the time, evacuation would have occured long before the rips.

The rof did not "collapse". Three panels tore in the high wind so the roof was deflated on purpose to assess the damage and so that repairs could be done.

When I first hear about I thought it was the same building that housed the ICC fiasco, my first thought was that it was God's vengeance for the fire sprinkler fraud, then I found out that it was a different building.

No, I work for a County just outside the Twin Cities metro area. The City of Minneapolis will do the inspections. Interestingly, No one has apparently asked the city inspection staff for any on the record comments yet. This would be an interesting project to be involved with.

The Twins baseball team got a new stadium and no longer play in the dome. The Vikings have been trying for years to get a new stadium. I'm sure this will be ammunition in that quest.

Joe: I have to say I enjoyed the city and the different buildings in and around the area. I also like the fishing on the the river out back of where I stayed. The Dome just attracted me and I had to get a first hand look. Also the Bridge that failed. Wonderful place. It is surprising that the city is not included in this mix. Maybe that is yet to come. keep us posted, you have a first hand look at what is going on.

All of the air inflated structures fail eventually! At least where snow is involved....JMHO... at least the one I permitted and inspected was the first one in the state to have the support provisions from 3102.8.3...that I know of anyway...at least 3 here have failed at some point...
