MIAMI SINKING?

Subsurface soil conditions along the coast can be crazy. Years ago I worked for an architect who designed McMansions along the SC coast. Many sites had a layer of compressible marl 50 feet or so below ground level. We had to use deep piles or pre-compress the soil. It's possible that there is a similar layer too deep to have shown up in geotechnical studies.
