2.7.1.4. 1) In assembly occupancies with occupant loads exceeding 60 persons, the occupant load shall be posted in conspicuous locations near the principal entrances to the room or floor area.

I hardly ever notice this type of sign in assembly spaces (from waiting areas, restaurants etc.). Is this due to a AHJ not requiring it in all assembly spaces?

Thanks!

I concur, same here.
Moving forward, for new buildings of tenant improvements, I do call it for:
- If a floor area or part thereof has been designed for an occupant load other than that determined from Table 3.1.17.1., a permanent sign indicating that occupant load shall be posted in a conspicuous location. 3.1.17.1.(2)
- A2 classifying as D for a max occupant load of 30. 3.1.2.7.
Hope it helps

I'd say this is from poor enforcement.

We see it a fair amount here in NB, but it is mostly from our provincial Office of the Fire Marshal.

I've required it. However, I've done so under NBC, not NFC when
a) the designer has designed to a lesser occupant load [in one case to avoid a whackton of washrooms; design was based on staff present in a processing facility, not the crude occupant load]
b) Alternative Solution based emergency exit times based on a specific occupant load, not to be exceeded.

I have a private educational facility on the go, and it will require signs under NFC.

I have had several projects that have declared a lesser occ. load to avoid costly design requirements, and have required the sign be posted prior to occupancy.
