Not where I really want to be
We now have a "Contributor" membership that shows that you made a one-time contribution to The Building Code Forum. This is recognition only and comes with recognition in your user title only. The one-time contribution title lasts for one year and does not include Sawhorse benefits. It does not auto-renew.

I'm glad I pay as a sawhorse. If I had to pay every time I found value in this forum I would have to take on a 2nd job.

Don't say it enough: Thanks JAR and everyone who helps me almost daily.

I had been an inspector for a long time when I found this forum. It was a relief to know that I could come here and find answers to my pressing questions. New inspectors should sit through a week of perusing the forum..and then write a book report.

When you call it a Contributor “membership” it sounds like the only way to contribute is to first create an account; you are offering recognition in their user title so that makes sense. But if someone’s using the forum to find an answer to something and they are impressed and feel like making a contribution the extra step of creating an account might be enough for someone to not donate.

Also, you could consider mentioning the new type of supporter in the welcome banner of the site…

Bye-bye greenhorn, bronze member, etc.? What's the difference between "REGISTERED" and "Member"?

I need an explanation for this please.
By “using the forum” I meant someone (who does not have an account) is viewing a forum page trying to find the answer to their question. Maybe they’ve been here before and went directly to the forum to use the search feature or maybe they clicked a link in their search engine results. But they are pleased that they are finding answers to their questions and see there’s an option to donate to the site and they think they’d like to make a donation. So they click the link to take them to the page about supporting the site then find out they can’t get there because they have to have an account to access that page. So at that point they feel like it’s too much time and effort to create an account just to put something in the tip jar.

Or if they have to put that much effort to register to "tip" it might also be a deterrent...
Exactly.

Exactly.
I have no way to do that without them registering right now, but I will work on making that happen. Great idea.

I don’t mean to make more work for you, just wanted to share my thought as to something that might prevent someone from donating.

I think the Contributor option is a great addition for those who do have accounts, hopefully people will see that and make use of that.
