outdoor covered equipment platform-construction type

Hi, all

I am currently working on a project, where the client wants to build a covered equipment platform attached to a existing type 1B building on second floor for loading/unloading and pass through. The structure is a two-story high outdoor space with covered canopy and partially enclosed sheet metal sidings on 3 sides. square footage wise it is about 1000 SF. My question is -- Since the existing building is type 1B construction, does this covered platform has to be treated as type 1B construction? (given the total metal siding area is over 25% of the structure's perimeter). Any inputs are highly appreciated!

Need to know what codes are used there and occupancy use, sprinklered, size and height of the existing building. The existing building plus the addition must meet the allowed sq. ft. and height for the construction type of the addition unless there is a fire rated wall between. It also could make the means of egress longer.
 
Devil is in the details on this one.....If it truly is an equipment platform, and not sheltering a use and really not part of the building, it might fly. Not part of the "primary frame"...Can you attach a drawing, picture, or sketch?

Support and access elements for a piece of equipment in a building would not have to meet 1B requirements, so outside is feasible if you can convince the AHJ
 
I hope my little modest advice would be helpful in any case. As far as I know, 1B construction is fire resistive non-combustible type of construction, which is commonly found in mid-rise office and the buildings of the group R. So, I guess that this kind of construction would be suitable for covering the platform. Have you contacted any specialists? I guess you need to consult with fiber engineering professional estate. My best friend did have a quite similar problem and applied there. And I must admit they are supported by top-trained field supervisors and technicians. I am sure you would be delighted with your choice.
