Hi there - I am in the process of opening a pickleball facility in 24800 sq ft warehouse in Massachusetts. I am going for a special permit as it is currently zoned industrial. There doesn't seem to be any reason why it wouldn't be granted I've been told.
But I am told that I need to install showers due to the codes in MA. I notice that indoor batting cages & dance studios do not have them. Are the under a special code other than recreational? I would think mine is very similar to indoor batting cages. I hope I asked this right..tnx

I would view an indoor pickleball facility to be the same as an indoor tennis facility or other gymnasium-like occupancy. Massachusetts does (not) use the IPC -- they have their own table:

I would put such a facility under "Indoor Recreational Facilities, Rinks, Swimming Pools, Gymnasiums and Others Without Spectator Seating (Patrons & Staff)." This would require a minimum of one shower in the men's locker room and one shower in the women's locker room.

MA DOES NOT use the IPC. The MA plumbing code (248 CMR) is based on the UPC. As for the use I would agree.

Oops -- I certainly intended to type "not" -- otherwise I would not have bothered to reproduce the MA fixture table. I never claimed to be a giood typist, especially later in the evening.

Sorry for the omission.

I don't know why this was posted under Articles rather than here where I moved it. Please pay attention to where you post.
