OK the day I did not want to see but happy that we are at that level.

The hosting for this message board has been outgrown. We can no longer function on a shared host. We simply have too much traffic requiring lots of RAM which is our primary problem, albeit a good one.

I have spent lots of time, effort and money on keeping this board up and running with the latest technology and security but it is no longer enough. The board is getting slower, pages are timing out. I am personally getting lots of double posts while it takes me minutes for post to show up after I click to submit new thread. Anyway, the time has come to go to a dedicated server. I have done my homework, checked around been consulted by several hosting companies and in the end have made a choice and just sent them money to pay for the year.

In addition to the hosting expense which I was able to get a reduction, I have the hourly rate of the local IT company to pay as they make the transfer to the newly purchased server and them maintain it as they have been with all of the software updates over the last year plus. It is now become burdensome and I really don't need to be spending thousands of dollars this time of year.......but I just did.

With the above being said. I am now willing to take on volunteers to donate money towards the operation and maintenance of this site. Many have offered right from the beginning and I resisted because I was able to easily afford the costs involved. A couple hundred over the course of the year was not too bad but I have my limits.

Voluntary donations can be made via Paypal to jeff@painspector.com if you want to. In your transaction, please specify your username on this board so I know who you are. I pay a fee and only get a part of it from Paypal but the ease of donation will make it worth it. If you don't want to use Paypal then go to http://www.inspectpa.com/contact.html and send to the address via snail mail. There are a few bits of information that I feel are important. Please read:

1) No one has to donate. Those who don't will continue as usual to use this board.

2) Donations are not tax deductible, this is not a non-profit charity.

3) Those that do donate will get a few perks. 1 perk is the ability to use HTML on their signature and the 2nd and biggest will be the fact that there is now a part of this forum that will only be visible and useable by "Supporting Members" who donate. It is sort of a private area. We need to have incentive and a perk.

4) I have no other way to put this. This is still my site, my responsibility and my company who is providing this service. It is still not a democracy whether or not you donate. I think that I have proven that I am reasonable and dedicated to this site by not acting like a czar for more than a year. Please be understanding of #4.

5) If donations do not keep up with costs then I will have no other choice but to accept advertising. I am trying this first as it appears as though most of you do not want advertising.

6) If donations exceed costs then good for me. My time is worth something. Note: I do not expect this to happen

7) I can't do it all and will still need to have our moderators and co-administrator keep tabs on the posts, spam and let me know when there are problems.

8) More to come. Please understand I am trying my best to keep this a great place that I feel is needed to help ensure the integrity of our industry. I don't want to have to do this but I am not wealthy, just an inspector.

For those who do not use Paypal or a credit card, we would be happy to accept snail mail at:

Advanced Code Group

Pittston, PA 18640

Thank you.

We are just about keeping up financially and I appreciate everyone's help that donated. It looks like this will work as I am still above water with the finances. For members, everything will continue as normal, for guests who don't join, there will be a banner at the top of the page. Our IT company has been relentless in reminding me that I am giving up a lot of money in advertising. The banner will not be visible if you are a member and signed in. If you are a member and do not sign in, you will see a banner. I really hate asking for money and recently told a member not to send more in as they already donated a $100 at the beginning of the year. This will offset the expenses so we can do more. We recently paid for a mobile app and that will be ready in a few weeks. I don't see how this will be an issue for anyone who is a member or donated as the banners will not be visible unless, of course you don't sign in. This may upset the apple cart with some but it is a decision that will not rely 100% on donations and my money. Thanks.

another donation coming; I promised I would.. I just need a nudge..

Jeff, don't use your "own money"... if members don't like advertising but won't contribute.. go ahead..

for myself, I'd rather not see it, but I don't think any of us expect you to run AND personally fund this forum.

Give monthly if you really hate the advertising.. otherwise shut up.

Update.

We are heading into another year and have experienced growth in members and consistent activity within the forum. Donations are trickling in but at a snails pace so I will be implementing a new change immediately to gain some revenue from ads.

Forum supporters will not see any changes unless they are not logged in.

Guests and regular members will now see banners whereas in the past, only guests and those not logged in saw them.

The small amount we bring in from clicks and banners for guests is actually decreasing.

Thank you again to everyone who participates and a special thank you to those who have become forum supporters.

I hope everyone understands.
