PORTLAND >> Sen. Art Linares and Rep. Christie Carpino applauded the State of Connecticut’s Feb. 28 approval of $20,000 to provide a grant-in-aid to the Portland Public Library for remodeling the restrooms in order to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The funding was approved unanimously by the State Bond Commission.

“This investment is welcome news,” Sen. Linares said. “The improvements will serve to make the library accessible to everyone, and we appreciate the state’s attention to this project.”

“This is great news for Portland. Our library is a central hub for the Portland community. These upgrades will allow the entire Portland community to participate in town government and to have their voices be heard,” Rep. Carpino said.

Library Director Janet Nocek said, “We are striving to make the library accessible to all area library users. We are very happy this is going to happen.”
