Not where I really want to be
Not sure what to do with this one. They don't want to put a high/lo fountain in but they want to put in a low and use a nearby sink for the high. Hmmmm

Is this more plumbing related?

No it is not plumbing related.

e. The minimum number of required drinking fountains shall comply with Table 2902.1 and Chapter 11.

f. Drinking fountains are not required for an occupant load of 15 or fewer.

How about installing a bubbler on the sink. Just did an elementary school addition with them installed on the classroom sink

Jeff,

Which codes are you referring to (2003, 2006, 2009, 2012)? There is no Subnote "e" & "f" to

Table 2902.1 in the 2006 IBC.

From the 2006 IBC, Section 1109.5.1 = Minimum number: "No fewer than two drinking fountains

shall be provided. One drinking fountain shall comply with the requirements for people who use a

wheelchair and one drinking fountain shall comply with the requirements for standing persons.

Exception: A single drinking fountain that complies with the requirements for people who use a

wheelchair and standing persons shall be permitted to be substituted for two separate drinking

fountains."

Your question now brings up other related questions. What are the requirements of a

Drinking Fountain for a standing person (i.e. - minimum height of the lip of the fountain,

minimum height of the drinking spout?). Is a "Hi-Low" actually required, or does a

single drinking fountain meet the requirements of both the ADA & non-ADA users?

Also, is there somewhere that identifies the use of "bubblers"?

ANSI117 has the specs for height.....I have never seen one that meets both.....CORRECTION...could be one unit, but needs outlet at 2 levels....

I quoted the 2009 IBC

A bubbler on a sink will work for the standing requirement. Just pay attention to the max required height for the sink (34") and the drinking spout, 38" minimum

602.4 Spout Outlet Height.

Spout outlets of wheelchair accessible drinking fountains shall be 36 inches (915 mm) maximum above the floor. Spout outlets of drinking fountains for standing persons shall be 38 inches (965 mm) minimum and 43 inches (1090 mm) maximum above the floor.

602.5 Spout Location.

The spout shall be located 15 inches (380 mm) minimum from the vertical support and 5 inches (125 mm) maximum from the front edge of the drinking fountain, including bumpers. Where only a parallel approach is provided, the spout shall be located 31/2 inches (89 mm) maximum from the front edge of the drinking fountain, including bumpers.
