Resurrecting old thread because I have run into this issue recently. IBC wood chapter, under conventional wood framing, Table 2308.7.3.1 has a line for 48" tie spacing. I don't see why this couldn't be used to space ties every 48" on a roof system with 12", 16", 19.2" or 24" rafter spacing. With so many nails, the rafter ties will likely need to be bigger to allow for the required number of nails.
