Range Hood Duct Material

What a surprise in this high rise condo to find this newly installed duct ready for connection to the new range hood. What is the material?

IRC 1503.4 and IMC 505.3 both require ducts for domestic cooking exhaust equipment to be made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. IMC also includes a requirement for smooth interior finish. So no, that duct does not meet the requirements for a domestic range hood.
 
You can see the ridgid pipe in the first picture going through the wall. Looks like they only need a couple of elbows ... why such a long piece of flex?
 
California Mechanical code
504.3 Domestic Range. Ducts used for domestic kitchen range or cooktop ventilation shall be of metal and shall have smooth interior surfaces.
Exception: Ducts for domestic kitchen downdraft grill-range ventilation installed under a concrete slab floor shall be per- mitted to be of approved Schedule 40 PVC provided:
(1) The under-floor trench in which the duct is installed shall be completely backfilled with sand or gravel.
(2) Not more than 1 inch (25.4 mm) of 6 inch diameter (152 mm) PVC coupling shall be permitted to protrude above the concrete floor surface.
Exception: Where an exhaust duct power ventila- tor, in accordance with Section 504.4.2.3, is used, the maximum length of the dryer exhaust duct shall be permitted to be in accordance with the dryer exhaust duct power ventilator manufacturer’s instal- lation instructions.
(3) PVC pipe joints shall be solvent cemented to provide an air and greasetight duct.
(4) The duct shall terminate above grade outside the build- ing and shall be equipped with a back-draft damper.
