I think there is something in the IRC that regulates this. I recently came upon a house that has two old water heaters (soon to be three) in the crawl space. I seem to remember something in the 2009 IRC that requires removal of the old appliance when a new replacement is installed. I can't find it now. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

I do not recall that anything in the IRC that would require that specifically the way you state it.

However, do look at R408.5 and see how you would interpret it. I think that may be what you are remembering.

Hmmm, I thought it was discussed in a Residential Mechanical class that I took a few years back. I must have been mistaken. I guess that is why I can't find it anywhere in the IRC. Thanks.

IRC 408.5 is definitely not what I remember. It was specific to replacement of appliances. It must have been part of a dream that I had :-?

ICE,

Was the water heater cut in half and made into bunk beds with you in one and Christie in the other?
