Using recheck to model 2021 IECC performance alternative path. Two questions:
1. Recheck notes the conditioned floor are as being "the gross area of all heated or cooled rooms". 2021 IECC R202.3 C defines conditioned floor area as "the horizontal projection of the floors associated with the conditioned space". In your experience, do code officials interpret the conditioned floor area as bounded by the inside face of the exterior walls, or the outside face of the exterior walls? Intuitively, I'd say it's wherever your air barrier is (inside face for me), but the code didn't ask for my intuitive answer...
2. My rescheck compliance score isn't changing when I type in my floor area as 1490 vs 1510. This doesn't make sense to me. Per R405.2, buildings 1500SF or less are to be no more than 64 percent of the energy consumption of the standard reference design. Once you go over 1500SF it bumps to no more than 47 percent. Seems like changing your square footage from 1490 to 1510 would drastically alter your score.
Reason this matters - if conditioned floor area is measured from the outside face of the exterior walls, I'm right at the 1500SF mark. Need to know if it's worth tweaking a few things to get just under 1500SF.
