Residential detached garage footings question.

320 sf garage plan submitted with a monolithic slab design but not stamped by an engineer. Would you require this to revert back to a normal frost depth if not stamped by an engineer? Plans came from the internet with no engineering stamp provided.

Frost depth 36-inches.

Monolithic only 12-inch deep

We allow non-engineered mono footing/slabs with the footing depth at 18". Our frost line depth is at 30".

R403.1.4 Exception 1 allows up to 600 sq ft,

Mono plans were not stamped but appear they do not have to be. Eaves will be less than 10-ft from grade and under the 600 sf, meeting the exemption #1.

I wouldn't require an engineer, I'd just tell them the trenches have to be deeper.
