Hi

Does any code require that whenever domestic drinking water lines are opened for work, that they be flushed?

Thanks, Mia

From the NYS plumbing code:

610.1 General. New or repaired potable water systems shall be purged of deleterious matter and disinfected prior to utilization. The method to be followed shall be in accordance with the applicable New York State Department of Health regulations.

and the Residential Code:

P2903.1.1 Disinfection of potable water system. New or repaired potable water systems shall be purged of deleterious matter and disinfected prior to utilization. The method to be followed shall be in accordance with the applicable New York State Department of Health regulations

Both refer to NY State Health Dept. regs. Maybe Mich has something similar?

Oh why not- As a private well owner with whole house cartrige sediment and charcoal filters as a precaution when I change the filters I put a capful of bleach into the filter when installing the new one, wht wouldnt you. but if you live in a public supply system that smells and tastes like pool water then maybe I wouldnt
